There are several sub-sectors of the “Business” sector of professional bodies, including Marketing, Sales and Public Relations.
The Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII) is the professional body representing all disciplines within the field of marketing throughout Ireland providing membership, qualifications and training among a wealth of other marketing-related facilities and resources. Established in 1962, it has in excess of 3,500 members nationally and represents marketing at both Government and international levels. It offers a competitive range of both professional qualifications and training and personal development programmes in addition to a wealth of student services and resources. Among the most popular of these courses are the Foundation Certificate in Marketing, the Diploma in Marketing, MSc in Marketing and the Graduateship – via entry exams or distance learning. The Sales Institute of Ireland (SII) is Ireland’s only professional body for people working in Sales. Founded in 1995, it currently has over 1,500 members. The institution offers training and support for people working within the Sales sector in Ireland. Membership benefits include access to nationally-recognised Sales qualifications including the Certificate in Selling Skills and the Diploma in Selling as well as professional recognition, networking opportunities and a wealth of other resources. The Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII) is affiliated to CERP - the European Public Relations Confederation. Members of the Institute subscribe to the Code of Lisbon, as well as to the Code of Athens. Founded in 1953, the institution represents more than 1,100 PR practitioners, communicators and students in Ireland. It provides excellent educational programmes and training workshops covering a wide range of PR-related topics including the Continuing Professional Development Programme and the Diploma in PR. The 2008 programme is the most comprehensive yet and features a number of sector-specific and specialist courses as well. The Institute of Project Management of Ireland is internationally recognised as the leading Irish organisation for the promotion of project management. Founded in 1989, its aim is to develop and promote project management in both the public and private sectors in Ireland. It provides certification and education in all areas of project management. Established in 1969, the Irish Institution of Training and Development (IITD) is the professional body representing members involved in or concerned with human resource training and development in Ireland. It is the representative body from Ireland on European and international training and development federations. IITD has approximately 2,000 professional and student members in Ireland and its members work in various sectors – from business to industry, consultancy, and education. IITD aims to provide professional education in training and development whilst identifying and implementing international standards. IITD provides a wealth of resources and support to its members.
